Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Common Legal Inquiries

Yes, we charge a standard consultation fee for the initial meeting. This allows our advocates to dedicate time to understand your case, review any documents, and provide preliminary legal advice on the way forward. This fee is often deductible from the final retainer if you proceed to instruct us.
Our fees are guided by the Advocates Remuneration Order (ARO) of Kenya. Depending on the nature of the matter, we may charge a fixed fee (common for conveyancing and company formation) or an hourly rate (for complex litigation or advisory work). We prioritize transparency and will provide a clear fee structure before commencing work.
The duration of a court case varies significantly depending on the court, the complexity of the matter, and the schedule of the judiciary. Simple matters may be resolved in months, while complex litigation can take several years. We strive to expedite cases through efficient filing and by exploring Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) where appropriate.

It is helpful to bring a valid ID/Passport and any documents relevant to your case, such as contracts, land titles, court pleadings, police abstracts, or correspondence. Having these organized helps us give you accurate advice from the start.
Mtetezi LLP is committed to giving back to the community. We accept a limited number of pro bono cases annually, primarily focusing on public interest litigation and defending the rights of the indigent. These are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
ADR refers to settling disputes without going to trial, through methods like mediation, arbitration, or negotiation. ADR is often faster, less expensive, and more confidential than litigation. Our advocates are trained mediators and can help you exploring these options.
We believe in constant communication. You will be assigned a lead advocate who will update you via email or phone at every key stage of your matter (e.g., after a court mention, upon receipt of a letter, etc.). We are also responsive to client inquiries within 24 hours.
